Here are fifteen ideas that we have collected in our reflections towards the end of the year of COVID-19.
The paradigm of the adoption of new technologies was broken with the 2020 pandemic and will remain with us with or without immunization either by vaccine or herd immunity. Before confinement forced all of us to change the way we work, shop, eat, live, and especially the way we think, many had avoided entering the new technological era. We know that until human beings are forced, we avoid change, that is human nature. But once we embrace this change, it is almost impossible to return to the world as we knew it in early 2020. Our society is now in an accelerated cycle of transformation, adaptation and renewal, regardless of the possibility of immunization.
- We, as social beings, are accustomed to mass events, with herd attitudes. We will continue to behave this way seeking the company of our friends and beloved ones. However, home office is here to stay. We are sure that it will produce further benefits and savings. Our homes will be adapted and redefined to create a mixed home and work model. Home technological solutions will explode and become increasingly friendly and functional.
- Our health systems will incorporate technological solutions focused on telemedicine, first contact care and admission to an institution. Medical care platforms are becoming everyday more efficient. Remote measurement instruments through computer or special purpose cameras will allow us to make on-line diagnosis immediately. Remote laboratory services will be common and necessary. The prevention of diseases will be privileged with adequate nutrition, exercise and development of sunbathing practices. The development of new vaccines will be faster and more efficient. Containment of sources of contagion will be a priority and with global regulations. Hospitals will improve their operation with subscription systems to provide priority and preventive care for subscribed patients with health problems. The new hygiene measures will reduce current infections.
- Human concentration in large cities will drop considerably, changing the location of the home / office to places that are more akin to the tastes of each individual, couple or family with factors such as climate, sea, forest, mountains, lakes defined as the selection criteria. The design of the house will be modified to include internal private spaces adapted for work with all the necessary technology. The physical location of the workplace and employees will become secondary for companies, which will be able to hire the best and most efficient collaborators where they wish to live. The advent of secure, bulky and fast data transmission will be almost immediate with 5G, Lifi, more efficient satellite systems, magnetic data transmission, and many other discoveries, which will allow us to work, have fun and socialize remotely more effectively from the comfort of our homes.
- Offices as we knew them, will mostly close except where secrecy, or sophisticated and collaborative equipment is needed to achieve results. This will cause mass transportation to be reduced and programmed with disruptive technologies. The large corporate buildings will be retrofitted, transforming them into homes with state-of-the-art technology and amenities of all kinds. This will prevent unnecessary transfers.
- Schools will proliferate as centers of education, socialization, development of sports, artistic, and community skills, growing in importance compared to the model they play today. It will be a revival of the Athenian agora type of education. From a certain age, students will be able to spend long periods in schools with an improved model of the boarding schools of the past. Distance education will have a supportive role, without replacing the early socialization needs of children. Schools, institutes and universities will maintain a hybrid scheme but supported with socialization even at a distance. The practical training will be more relevant and can be obtained remotely to receive licenses (
